Making Cloth Diapers Less Intimidating
Starting cloth diapering can be OVERWHELMING! There is so much information out there, so many kinds of diapers, brands of diapers, ways to wash the diapers, dry the diapers, store the diapers...AHHHH!
When we first started cloth diapering for E, my husband and I did a few things to make starting a whole lot less intimidating.
1. We only bought one pack of newborn cloth pocket diapers and registered for one pack of one-size pocket diapers. We didn't want to jump in fully until we knew for sure we wanted to do this, so we started small and slowly built our collection over time.
2. The thought of cloth diapering when we were out and about was hard to picture, so we told ourselves we would only do it at home. We quickly realized it was just as easy for us to do it full time, but being flexible was helpful when starting out.
3. Don't worry about what you will do when your little one starts eating food. (Exclusively breastfed baby poop is water soluble and doesn't require any special rinsing). We are just starting to deal with non-exclusively breastfed poop and figuring out what method works for us. We just decided to not worry about it until we got here, and it definitely helped us start more fearlessly.
4. Trust that you'll figure out what works for you. There are 1000 different ways to cloth diaper, wash, dry, fold, and store. Reading all the information online before we even began was really overwhelming. But once we actually had diapers that were being peed and pooped in, we were able to quickly figure out exactly what worked for us.
Don't let the overwhelm of starting scare you away from cloth diapers if you are wanting to give them a go. It really isn't as hard (or gross) as it sounds!!
