Reminder: Take your child’s feelings seriously
Just because your child is small does not mean their emotions are smaller or less significant.
Just because the thing that made them upset might seem trivial to you doesn’t make their emotions less valid.
Just because they might not know how to express their feeling appropriately yet doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be allowed to feel them.
Just because you might think it’s cute or funny when they are upset or scared doesn’t mean they deserve to be subjected to these things more or laughed at.
Kids’ feelings are just as real, just as full, and just as meaningful as anybody else’s. If anything, they are even more overwhelming for them because they don’t have the experiences or brain development to understand the thoughts behind their feelings. Kids are full humans who experience the full range of emotions. This is a reminder that they deserve to be treated accordingly.
