“The Simplicity of Play”
Play. One of the most important biological needs for children (and all humans really). Play is how children have fun. Play is how children learn. Play is how children process big feelings. Play is how children make sense of the world. Because play is so simple, it allows children to understand the complexities of life.
Children of all ages can be found using play to make sense of our complex world.
Infants stare into your eyes to learn about love and attachment. Toddlers watch your reactions when they do something you told them not to to learn about how people can have different opinions than themselves. Young children act out scenarios to process things happening in their world around them. Older children use play in peer groups to learn about the complexities of human relationships.
When you stop and think about it, children have to learn SO MUCH in such a short amount of time. It is far more than we could ever try to explicitly teach them. Lucky for us, nature gave humans the capacity for the richest form of learning, play!
Watch your kiddos play today. What do you notice them trying to understand about the world?
