Let’s Talk About Mirrors!
Babies absolutely love faces. From the moment they are born, they tune into the faces around them. Therefore, it only makes sense that mirrors would be a major favorite for babies.
So why are mirrors so good for baby?
Tummy Time: Using small soft sided mirrors are great for tummy time. Prop it up on the ground in front of your babe and they will love lifting their heads to see the baby in the mirror.
Language: Mirrors provide such a fun opportunity for babbling with your babe. Whether you lay down with them in front of the mirror on the ground or you make a stop down the hallway in the bathroom, use mirrors to chat with your baby. You can talk about the different things you see in the mirror or just enjoy making different noises with baby.
Visual Tracking: As your baby gets older and their vision improves, they’ll be able to start tracking objects as they move across their visual field. Mirrors are a great time for them to practice this skill
Connection: Mirrors are so great at eliciting smiles and giggles from baby. We love using mirrors for singing, a game of peek-a-boo, or making silly faces with each other. It’s such a fun time to play with your baby and connect.
Whether you are holding your baby in front of a wall mirror, giving your baby a soft sided mirror for the ground, or hanging (securely) a mirror on the wall at floor level, babies LOVE playing with mirrors!
This is why they make the list for one of my top 6 toys for 6 month olds. Check out the blog post on it to see the other 5!
