Safe Sleep 7

The La Leche League has developed what is called the “Safe Sleep 7” for safe bedsharing. When bedsharing, follow these 7 key points to eliminate the major SIDS and suffocation risks.

  1. Sober parent

  2. Non-smoker

  3. Breatfeeding

  4. Healthy Baby

  5. Put Down on Back

  6. Not Overdressed

  7. Safe Sleep Surface

Studies have shown that while most breastfeeding parents don’t plan on bedsharing, 60-75% of them will at some point. Even if you aren’t planning on bedsharing, it’s still a good idea to prepare yourself and your room for safe sleep if/when the time comes.
